I have developed a rattle in the front end when I hit little bumps in the road. The truck only has 52K miles on it. I haven't hit any large potholes or bumps that could have bent or broke anything. It doesn't wander or pull in any direction and the tire wear is even and normal. I put the truck on jack stands and felt for play in the hubs - none. I couldn't find anything loose, even with a pry bar, including the ball joints. Then I noticed the left/front lower shock mount bushing appears to be blown out. The coil spring has been rubbing on the frame, as evident from the shiney metal and absence of paint, but was 3/4 of an inch away from the frame when I looked at it and I couldn't force the spring/shock assembly to move in any direction while on jack stands. Any ideas? Will replacing the bushing fix this or do I have a bigger problem?
Prolly a locked up shock. I had one do the same. It will causes rattles and squeeks. The stock shocks are not that great from the factory. Pull the shock off and then drive it to see if it goes away.
You mean drive it without a shock? Doesn't the shock provide some of the structure for the front suspension/control arms?
Well I just got rid of this problem. It was my shocks. Of course I have 127,000 on my truck and it still had OEM shocks on it. Replaced with Ranchos, problem solved. However, I still have this squeek in my front end everytime i hit little bumps in the road thats really annoying, I wonder if those would be my bushings.
