I want to paint my summer rims which are the 20's black. Theyre chrom which i know is a pita medium to paint on.whats the best way to scuff it up an paint without having to take the tires off the rim and sandblast em? I was thinking just spraying em with single stage black.

You don't need to take them off at all. I didn't on either set of rims I painted. I haven't used the plastidip but, like J.Wal says, others have an they said it turned out good. I sanded mine and then sprayed them with self-etching primer and then painted them. they turn out great but the sanding was a pita.

I painted my Harley wheels and didn't sand anything. I cleaned them really well, used some wax and grease remover, then used rustoleum industrial satin black paint. They have held up really well. I didn't sand them because I wanted to be able to remove the paint if I wanted.

I'm repainting mine now.. I used plastidip to start with and its okay but its more of a flat black and hard to clean...

Now I'm sanding them down with 220 grit sand paper to scuff them up then spraying 2 coats of duplicolor adhesion promoter followed by 2 coats of rustoleum profesional gloss black enamel (in the tall silver cans) and I'm extremly pleased with the results so far
