I'm in the middle of doing a brake job on my 2001 F150 w/ 117,000 miles. I removed my all 4 of my calipers and rotors. I cleaned the calipers and painted them and then installed new Wagner Thremoquiet brake pads and Wearever brake rotors all the way around. Then I went to bleed the whole system but for the some reason the pedal was incredibley spongey and would go all the way to the floor. So I replaced my master cylinder and followed the right steps to bench bleed it before installing. Still had a spongey pedal and a hissing type noise coming from that area so I replaced the brake booster and STILL have the same issue. I'm not sure where to go next. Caliper rebuilds? New hoses? any insight would help. I replaced 2 leaky bleeders and they still are leaking, would the caliper rebuild fix this or is a new caliper in line? Thanks in advance guys!
If it worked fine before then your issue is in your repair. spongey is air in the lines, bleed from the farthest away to the nearest to the cylinder, ie rear passenger, rear drivers, passenger front, drivers front. The hissing sound is probably a vaccuum line that cracked after you moved it to replace the booster. did you put the copper crush washers for the brake lines back on when you reinstalled? are you bleeding by yourself or is someone helping?
I'm always satisfied when I get my bj done by a qualified person. It's better than doing it yourself, albeit not as cheap.
double check to make sure you have the proper caliper on the right sides. the bleeder valves should be at the top of the caliper in order to get all the air out of the system. also make sure that you put brand new crush washers where the brake lines hook to the calipers, make sure they are the proper size too. if they aren't youll notice fluid flowing out. had a dude at the local oreilly auto tell me the calipers were able to go on either side and I believed him, instead of thinking about it. I don't go there anymore.
