What does it mean when there's brown/burnt looking spots on the edge of the cam lobes? There only one spot per cam lobe.
Sounds like spots where the oil was "coked" or burnt. Oil went to that area on the cam lobe and then later on maybe due to lower oil pressure was not washed by fresh oil and had begun to carbonize. That engine may have been run several thousand miles without an oil change and a PO just kept topping off the oil to the full mark.
hmm..thats a first for me..will it come off? doesnt look to be anything of concern Sent using Tapatalk while fake vacationing at Sandals Resort
Very clean looking parts inside that engine David. Looks like the surface area on that spot is lower than the rest of the cam lobe. I still say it is coked oil penetrated into the metal even though it was hot tanked. Maybe be why it is brown from not being contacted by the bottom of the lifter.
Thats a smooth surface there. I was able to stick my fingers in there to see what it was. Should replace the cam then?
Like Adam said, doesn't look to be anything to be concerned about, it's not like it is in the center of the lobe where the lifter rides.
Doesnt matter know. I just realized that have to replace camshaft, lifters and pushrods. The PO didnt mark the lifters/pushrods on which cam lobe they go to.
