Alright guys, Ive been reading all around google for a couple hours trying to find the best info for setting up my edge but haven't found much. Lots of info but nothing just saying "use this setting".

I have been just running it in the Trans only setting for the last year or so.

Decided to try Level 2 and raise the shift firmness as well. BUT anything above +2 causes the truck to idle stupidly rough and low. Idles fine with all gear changes on +2.

Basically what I would like to achieve is the longest life from my Transmission. She's gettin' to be on her last legs. OD was acting up the other day, and I am starting to get a 3rd gear shudder. Any extra MPGs would be nice too though.

Unrelated to the Transmission life, but I think I'm gonna have 90 or 91 octane a try as well.

I would try running it stock for a little while and see if your trans is still acting up. Get on the Edge forums and see what they say too

I've had it in the level 1 Trans mode for about a year with no issues. It's just now starting to act up, so I don't think going back to stock would help. And its got over 176k miles, so no surprise to see it starting to go.

I recently read that raising shift firmness will help to extend trans life, so I though I'd give it a shot. Just confused as to why anything above +2 shift firmness causes it to idle rough. And this is in park too, not in gear. Truck almost didn't start and then just sat there idling like ****, and I shut it down and changed the shift firmness back to +2 (in the LVL 2 Towing mode). After that it idled fine again.

I did revert to stock and go for a quick test run. The trans slips waaay to much for my liking when changing gears in stock mode. Feels much better in the [Level 1] or [Level 2 with +2 firmness] modes.

I only went to +5 when I was testing the higher shift firmness. I wonder what would happen if i did raise it up to 9 or so :hmm: Not sure why it would get better by going even higher but, stranger things have happened.

level 2 is recommended for 89 octane. So you may get some weird idle if your using 87.

Have you tried the level 1 with shift firmness higher than +2?

that is odd...I have changed mine a ton. now that I have a built tranny...it already shifts real hard..and with the edge on full blast it really slams it into gear...on hard acceleration revving higher the shift is smoooth and the power is continuous but when im not on it it makes the entire truck lurch.

tone it back and crank it way down so it shifts smoothly, see what happens with it. I assume you tripple checked everything else was not touched (sometimes if you bump the timing it will idle like crap.) also have you updated it lately?

It's idling weird because the trans is trying to lock into gear instead of bypassing and slipping like it normally would at neutral idle. It's lugging the engine.

Sounds to me like you're due for a new transmission in the very near future. I don't suspect changing shift firmness is going to help that out any at all.
