Alright guys. I know everyone knows by now my tires are officially f***** so I need new ones by winter. Here is a picture I took yesterday. Questions are: Should I get another set to fit my stock 17" rims? If I use my stock rims, what tire would be durable enough to occasionally take on the trails without getting shredded like my stockers did? What size should I go with? I have a 2" AS up front and 3" rear block. I tow machines for work occasionally so what load rating should I look for? Should I keep my stock rims and these tires for the trails and buy new rims and tires for everyday driving? Any and all opinions will be appreciated.
I figured it would end up going in this direction. I'd also like to add that I have had a plug in my one tire for literally all 30k that my truck has on it. I'm surprised at least that one made it this long. Now what do you guys have as far as recommendations and links for pricing, for rims and tires? I'd like to keep my black theme going so black rims for sure. One of these days I'll have Big'un make me new black STX decals and someday I'll bedline my steps, maybe even take them off. I bought them like the week I bought my truck so I wasn't expecting to be putting so much black on my truck. Also if anyone wants to PS something, go for it. I like seeing different options.
if you're gonna upgrade your rim, you might as well go to a 20. going from a 17 to an 18 isn't worth the extra cash in my opinion. and if all you are going to be running is 33's, i say get some Mickey Thompson ATZ's. I have them, in 35, and love them. real quiet on the road, handle great in all conditions, and if you rotate regularly, you'll get great life out of them. I have 40k on mine, and should easily put on another 30k. and they arent much more expensive then other sets of 33's.
If your going to stay with your 17's,you can fit 35's.I did.Hell you might as well spend the extra 200-300 for the 35's.Check out the tires i have. There used for off road and work and are awesome.Did a write up in them as well. It's worth it to read them if your gonna look for tires soon. http://www.fordfullsize.com/forum/f104/my-official-review-goodyear-wrangler-duratracs-2259/
just get a set of 315-70-17 bfg A/Ts, good tires, quiet, they last long, good for heavy loads, as far as rims go that's all you. everyone has their favorite rim but it's what you want to see on your truck every day
