Man you got a write up for this?? Id love to do everything in my truck red.. I hate that green shat..
Cool! I just finished wiring a bulb holder for a blue LED to replace the white one I put in the headlight switch panel. Thanks for the idea for how to best use the blue T5s I have left over! Mine are probably incandescent, since mine is a '98.
TLS, a slight problem with red. The gauge cluster has a blue film in it, that would need to be removed by first taking the cluster apart (prepared to mess with removing the needles?) and using a solvent to remove the blue film. Someone on another forum did this in red, was a lot of work, but worked out great (I have to check another computer, as I may have bookmarked it there, and I'll post the link). Temp panel is easier to do, as the film just slips out once you take it apart.
Hey, Supercrewzin, THANX! The voltage dropping resistor is already in the assembly, so I'll just order some "raw" LEDs. All the others shoehorn a 680 ohm or so resistor into the base assembly.
I got 100 LEDs and 100 resistors off ebay for less than 10 bux. I didnt need the resistors in my truck. All I did was unsolder the stock green bulb, bend the leads of the new bulb to match the stock one, then resolder the new ones back in. I didnt even use any new solder, just what was already on the board. After you do a couple, you will see how easy it is to do them.
i got my LEDs yesterday and i just pulled my dash off to swap them out. These bulbs are way to ****ing big. theyre listed as a 194 2002 f150 dashboard light replacement on superbrightleds.com. they aint guna fit.
the only lights these 194s work with are my door lights, license plate lights and it looks like the glove box has the same light but i havent tried it yet. The dash on an 02 is all (6) 37/74 along with the cup holder. just ordered some new ones and should be here next week some time.
There are a TON of different LED combos that use the 194 base; as I mentioned in an earlier post, even though the base fits, if the form factor is too wide, or they're trying to squeeze 28 LEDs into a single assembly, it won't fit. I've seen something crazy on eBay that was paddle shaped and flat, but still used the 194 base. The ones I used, and fit like a glove, are below. OBTW, you can use those larger ones in the assembly over the bed, next to the 3rd stop light (yea, depending on the color, you could do that too).
