If you want to spend some big money Flex A Lite makes a direct fit kit for 97-03 F150's. Summit sells that sucka too...
You can use any fan that will fit. The things you have to watch is cfm's and amperage draw. If you don't have the cfm's the truck will run hot. You also don't want a fan that draws a ton of amps. Some fans can draw as much as 30 amps on start up.

I bought 2 E fans from Oreily's with a lifetime warranty, switch kit with relays, temp probe, and everything else for around $150. I wired mine so that as long as the temp probe was reading between 160* and 200* it would continue to run the fans even after I shut off the truck. I also wired in my electric water pump to that circuit to help cool the motor off quicker after shutdown. I don't suggest doing it that way unless you have a good deep cycle battery setup like I do so the deep cycle can take the brunt of the power and your regular battery is unharmed...
