You may rub with that wide a tire. 285/75R17 should be about the same size and are a little narrower

What about 1 1/2 more narrow on the 75 series?

The 305/70 tire is 33.8"x12" and the 285/75 is 33.8x11.2, so you save 0.8" in width and keep the same height. 285/70 is 32.7x11.2, so about an inch shorter, you lose 1/2" in height.
