    Gas Milage:
TLDR: higher octane doesn't improve mpg nor does it automatically add power. Octane is a measure of resistance to ignition of the fuel. Higher octane allows higher compression. Modding for MPG is kind of pointless.

    Additional Information:

Re: 8.8" and 9.75" differentials with C-clip axles:

The axle bearing inside race is the axle itself. The region of roller contact on the axle will wear, get rough and cratered out. Catastrophic failure of the bearing assembly is rare, but the worn region causes a lot of noise. Usually a repair technician will say that the axle should be replaced, but that is not necessary.

Repair bearing/seal integrated assemblies are available. The devices move the roller contact area on the axle race outboard the width of the rollers where there is no wear. All that is necessary is to snatch out the old bearing and seal and press into place the integrated bearing/seal assembly....piece of cake. The bearing assemblies cost 35-65 bucks each depending on the application, a lot cheaper than a new axle.

Repair bearings are: SKF R1559 for the 8.8" differential.
SKF R1561F for the 9.75" differential.

Holy, seems like a lot of those links are to the other F-150 site I used to be a member on... I'm surprised none of my write-ups and DIY guides are on there.
