By lwb do you mean crew cab long bed? There are a ton of crew cab short beds out there, probably 50/50 from what I've seen. If you want reliability and longevity to with a 7.3. My dad has an 02 with 230k and all he's done is brakes, started, alternator, and batteries. You know, the expected things. We haul equipment and dump trailers almost everyday. Mine is an 01, I've done a little more mainly because I've modded mine. You add tuners, and more boost etc.. You're bound to need a little extra work. 7.3 transmission is the weak spot, find one with a rebuilt or built up trans and you're golden. I have a built trans with an upgraded trans cooler and I couldn't be happier.

The wife was trying to get me to sell my 7.3 and get a 6.4. I've test driven a couple and my built 7.3 has way more power the the 6.4, but that's not a fair comparison ha ha. A lightly built 6.4 can have way more power than a 7.3. I just have too much work into mine to part with it ha ha. 6.0, 6.4, and 6.7 have a lot of emissions stuff to work around so depending on your states emissions standards you might have some trouble working around them and installing the proper deletes to start modding. I think the only emissions equipment a 7.3 has is a cat, and only the ones manufactured for certain states. Mine didn't have one.

What's your main preference? They're all good trucks with the right work. 7.3 is the most reliable stock but it's rough and bouncy because truck ha ha. 6.0s have that head and gasket issue, but less transmission problems, and it's probably a little more comfy with the coil sprung front end. The 6.4s I've driven are uber plushy and ride awesome but lack some power because they're choked down with the emissions equipment.

Like I said, I've been tossing around the idea of getting a 6.4, something more cushy and comfortable, but I don't think I'm ready to trade my truck no matter how big, loud, and bouncy it is ha ha.
