Alright guys, figured id open up the first problem thread. Need some help diagnosing a "howling" brake problem. Its me rear brakes, i know that for sure(i think). My rotors look very clean and i even cleaned them with break cleaner just to be sure. I cant remember when i last had my pads changed but they look like they could be getting old. When i hit my brakes the rear howl really load, its not a screeching noise, more like a deep howling noise. i have had my rotors turned once or twice, thought maybe that was the problem but it only temporarily fixed the noise. i know rotors can warp from turning them so it may be time to get new ones. if i stop hard it wont make the noise, but if i am slowly coming to a stop they make the noise until i am fully stopped. any ideas?
lets start simple...it could just be the pads...maybe a simple rotor problem...start with the simplest then get to the difficult....
I had this problem when I first bought my truck... I took it in 5 times back to the ford dealership where I bought it and they kept spraying something on em like brake quiet or something because I almost went right across the street trying to stop when I was leaving!! Then it would come back a few days later and I could stop again!! lol, at low speed stopping it was like a weird metal to metal low tone rubbing howl (hard to explain)... I kept telling em to change the pads n rotors but obviously they would'nt so I did it my self and no more weird "howl"... I used the house brand rotors and ceramic pads
And I had this same condition!! I'm not saying to change everything... But if you've turned the rotors and it was a temporary fix, I'd be pointing fingers at the rotors and replaceing them and the pads in the rear
alot of times you'll get this with ceramic pads...i remember when they first hit the market years ago...they were the big thing then...but the biggest problems with them was squeaking or groaning like your saying...try a different pad and see what happens!
ill look into new rotors but my pads are looking kiinda shitty, i thought i had them changed but i cant remember. all i know is that its an annoying sound and its louuud as hell.
