I haven't went out to look at it yet, its snowing lol I went and bought a new serp belt but I almost don't want to put this on. gotta pull the truck in the garage. well see how warm it is working in there.
Here's the boot. Found out it's moving right at that bolt. There isn't any movement at the joint itself. A bad u joint won't make a squeak anyways. The noise only happens when the truck is in 4x4 and the gas is pushed. Got some thinking to do.
I've had u-joints that couldn't be budged with a pry bar, but were definitely bad. It's probably a u-joint. And if not, hey! New u-joints! Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk
alright well im am completely confused. just locked it in 4x4 and took the truck to the UAW parking lot across the street. no squeak...wtf is going on. my problem was that the squeak would only happen when its locked in 4x4, I would get the most annoying squeak ive ever heard when pushing on the gas pedal. the U joint will squeak if there is play side to side correct? I just don't seem like the U joint would make the squeaking sound that I was hearing, that's what I meant to type.
It's super cold there, metal is contracting an expanding and greases do similar things. You're gonna kill yourself trying to pin point it in those conditions. Replace the u joint and pull the drive shaft apart an lube the splines. Ty you should have a boot on it, probably why yours locked up, gunk got in there.
didn't think about that, noise JUST started getting worse, no joke lol didn't get a chance to buy the U joint tonight, was trying to debug/set up my moms network at her store. thanks guys, I will let yall know how it goes tomorrow. I might pull it apart tonight and let it sit till tomorrow when I can grab the part. trying to get it at a discount from my buddies girlfriend.
I don't think my truck has a boot on there either. I'll have to look tomorrow, but I don't think it does. Props to you for working on your truck in the freezing cold though. I can't stand doing that. haha hopefully that new u joint will solve your noise problem.
sure hope so. just bought a Moog joint for $15, got a killer discount lol I think they go for $25. sadly I cant work on it right now, gotta go back to my moms store to try to get her network up and running. having issues with her router.
working on the front U joint. damn clips snapped in half on me, nothing ever goes smoothly lol. got the clips off, just having a hard time beating the caps out. im using a socket that just fits in the hole. i have heard it easier to take the whole shaft out and work on a bench but i don't have much room at the moment. tricks for getting the caps off?
