totally agree this is the setup i run on my 454, cuz thats the type of engine that is supposed to sound stupid loud. but again, each their own.
You need to figure out if you want it loud or if you just want a tuned mellow sound. Straight piping a truck is okay, I prefer a muffler though. Flowmaster Super 40's are fairly loud in my opinion. I've always ran 50 series Flowmasters mainly because I like less noise in the cab. I put a sound system in my truck so I could hear it, not the motor screaming down the highway. I'd do a single in dual out muffler over doing just a single anything, whether it be straight piped or not.
My old setup was only loud when you got on trying to pass or if you where next to a wall such as going over a bridge, I had the flowmaster 50's on there.
I agree, 50 series are plenty loud for most needs. 40's and 44's are louder if a more aggressive sound is what you're looking for.
I want the bitch loud... LOL I don;t drive her that often, I carpool in to work now. so loud isn;t a big deal... I just need to decide if I want duals or a single..
Then duals it is then. I personally wouldn't straight pipe it though, nothing against it. If loud is what you want I'd pick a Super 40 or Super 44 Flowmaster. It will give the best sound and tone.
Go true duals. have them cut out the y-pipe, add a straight section for the passenger side, a new 90 for the driver, and run those into si/do Super 44's. Have 4 pipes out the back end. True dual on each bank. THATS loud!
