I have a '98 f150 with a 4.6 and a 5 speed. It's not a smooth shift into second. It's bumpy, noisy, and takes more force than it should. It doesn't grind, but it doesn't sound or feel right. When it gets warm, it shifts better. The truck only has 47,000 miles. What could be causing this issue?

Is it more pronounced on a downshift or is it the same in both directions?

    It's more noticeable on upshifts
