hahaha caps are a pain in the ass in the summer IMO. i cant fit anything in there. i hall alot of stuff back and forth to my grandpas barn thats too tall to fit in there. i really only put the cap on in the winter because of hunting season. we bring alot of firewood back home and i dont like it getting wet with rain or snow and we have alot of gear to bring so instead of packing one truck so full that you ahve nowhere to sit for a 4 hour drive we put all athe **** in my truck.
Yea cap is great for that in the winter. Also rocks in the summer if ya go camping. Fugg a tent, throw the air mattress in the bed and be done.
finnaly got my steel tubing. its 38" long and i think its 1 1/2 wide. got it for free from our machanic at work. he had some laying around, had to clean the rust off with a wire brush and i put some purple power de-ruster on it. its almost ready to be primed. just waiting for it to dry. Gotta drill the mount holes in it first when it dries tomorrw before i paint it. also picked this up from my grandpas barn today. guna put this on in the winter for those tail-gaters. that way if anyone hits me i have a better chance of them not messing anything up. got all the rust off of this as well and brushed some deruster on it. should be ready for prime tomorrow.
well my idea isnt going to work. the cap has a contour to it so the bar only sits flat in the middle. i guess the only way i would be able to do it is drill two mount holes in the middle and have the sides not touch the cap. i think that would look dumb though. ill see if i can think of a better idea.
yea i wanted to just mount the bar itself to the roof. i didnt realize how much of a contour it had. im going to have someone weld something on the ends for me to mount it.
You should see it now. I took an air grinder to it to get as much rust off as possible, cleaned it with some mineral spirits and painted it with some rustoleum hammered black. Ill get pics after work.
