    I remember looking at them when they first hit the lots back then. From what I remember the Lariat's and the 4X's had the honeycomb. I'm sure some where ordered with or without honeycomb grilles. The reason your truck my not have the honeycomb is be because it has a chrome grille surround. I've never seen any on the 97-03's that came from Ford with the honeycomb grille with a chrome surround. This may explain the reason you have the bar insert.

    you may be right. that may be aftermarket too. my truck has a lot of chrome to be an XL

    That may be the very reason it don't have that grille right there. I don't recall ever seeing an XL with the honeycomb grille.

    My 2002 is an XLT and it came with the bar grille and a chrome surround. The salesman told me they always put the bar grilles with the chrome surrounds.
