So as some of you guys know I am slowly lifting my truck up. It's a 2WD and the reason I'm not just buying a new 4WD is because this one used to be my grandfather's, then my dad's, and now it's mine, so it's going to stay in the family. While it's mine I want to make it more my own and to me that means lifting it. I will eventually get lockers or LSD for the rear so I can take it off road, but that's going to be one of the last things I do.

On my road to building up my truck I had a question, how high can I lift the rear suspension before I need a longer drive shaft, or do you ever need to?

I ask because I currently have 2" blocks back there (on old saggy leafs) and 2" RCX leveling springs up front. Eventually I'd like to get 3.5" spindles up front and then do whatever I need to so it's not sitting bull-dog cali style, which will probably mean new rear springs with an add a leaf so the truck sits level.

Once I lift the rear suspension past a certain point, won't I need a longer drive shaft? If so, what is that point?

I recently had mine at the local shop to get some life quotes. They advised if i had anything over an 8" suspension lift i would need a longer drive shaft. This was their advice i have heard flip flop opinions about this. Curious to see the results of this thread by someone more knowledgeable.
