I change mine out every 20k tops. I try to do it every 15k, but when I am driving 2500mi/mo, sometimes its the latter. I also change my oil every 5k (which is every other month) and I get my trans flushed every 25-30k. I might be over doing it, but we'll see when I'm rollin factory powertrain and pushin 250k.
you ever opened that thing up to see how nasty the fluid gets? my dads buddy put amsoil in his f150 rear and said he actually picked up another 1-2 mpg, gonna change mine this summer but thats because i plan on news seals and bearings
I did mine back in the Summer time and changed the oe fluid and put in Royal Purple.Gotta get to the front next and will be doing that in the next 2-3months.
And the Manual Says: ....100K miles according to the service manual for my '97 XLT, 8.8" non-locking differential. Recommended lube: 75W140 GL5 full synthetic. I used Wal-Mart Supertech 75W140 GL5 full synthetic, about $10.50/QT., half the price of the equivalent major brands.
mine was changed at like 166000 when i had a seal go out and i was plaining on doing it this summer when i do a compleat service to it
