Well I've always wanted a diesel and definitely have a need for one. I'm pretty sure ford came out with the 7.3 in 94. I know all the 7.3s didn't have turbos. Did ford ever put a turbo on the 6.9? If so what year did they start putting tubos on them? I think these are the only two diesels ford had in the 90s so if you guys can educate me on them it would be nice.

Those are the only diesels they had. The 6.9 never had a turbo from ford, and the first 7.3s didn't either. But you can order a kit to retrofit an older 7.3 with a turbo, I can't remember from who though.
Why are you looking at those older trucks? I would look at the late 90s with the 7.3s personally, though if I drove a diesel it would have to be a cummins lol

I would like around 95 with a turbod 7.3. I don't have a lot of money to put in to this. I've considered saling my truck and getting a 99-03 f250 with the 7.3 but I can't find any for a reasonable price. The f150 just can't meet my towing needs so I'd like to pick up a 90s model diesel to use as a work truck.

none of the 6.9s came with turbos... the 6.9s and 7.3 idi's are the same engine ..made by international....... 94.5 was the first year for the 7.3 powerstroke... the pre 94s are very very strong i have a 93 7.3 and i would hook up to just about anything... i have pictures of it pulling a 14x70 house trailor.... i pulled it about 40 miles ... no problems and had some reallly steep hills... only problems i had was the trans was getting hot (but my fuel is turned way up).... the pre 94 7.3s can be turbo'd the whole kit cost around 3500bucks... its a made by banks.... its the banks side winder turbo...(no west gate)... but it comes with a trans programmer 4inch monster turbo back and down pipes... the only thing sucks about the pre 94's is they are not fast..at all.. and theres few few things you can do to modify them... the powerstrokes are a compelty different 7.3.. and you can add a tuner to them...

i have the comeplete sidewinder kit ... i just dont have it installed... i have the banks cold air intake....stage 2 injectors...3inch single straight pipe..injector pump cranked.... if you got any questions or anything let me know... i got some good web sites you can check out if your wanting a pre 94...

Thanks for the info kyle. I'm gonna keep my eye out around here for a 94 up. I don't want to put a lot of money into so it would probably be cheaper for me to go ahead and get one with a turbo. I have a mowing business and I recently leveled my f150 and I don't want to drive around all summer with my trucks nose in the air so I want it b4 summer. Plus in virginia there's a ton of steep hills. And that's a 16 ft trailer with a big john deere and a 0 turn lawn mower so its heavy. I also have a big farm and haul hay a lot and stuff. Thanks again for all the info guys.

... well if you can.. id get a 95-97 model.. the 94's had some bugs.. ... i have no turbo on mine right now.. and you cannot imagine the torque and power of it.. i had 36inch iroks on it... and it would eat them off.... no problem.. another tip..... if the truck is manual........ be sure the clutch and everything feels good...... becouse there about 800 bucks for a clutch kit..
