I couldn't charge any of you guys on the forum to do this. I'd be happy just to help out another ford enthusiasts. The only problem w/ me doing them, is you would be w/out a cluster for 2 wks tops (1wk to get to me, day to do the work, 1 wk to get back to you). Now, for those that have a 2nd ride, this isn't an issue. but for those that don't, doing this mod yourself is the best time. You would only be w/out your ride for the time it takes you to do the install, and I am happy to get on the phone and help anyone out that happens to run into a hiccup. I have done 2 clusters so far, 1 Fx & 1 Lariat. Those interested, let me know. Always glad to help!
Well i have a second ride so thats no problem with me man.I would want my LEDs to be in red.Can ya do it in that color? Also give me a list of what i would need to provide man?I am looking to do this in like a month. Thanks man Oh ya,morning shiat head, lol.
mornin douche haha. here is the link to the type of bulbs you need. I got mine from "superbrightleds.com". you will need the "Wedge type #74-xHP3" in what ever color you want. A minimum of 12 is needed, but I would get 15 just incase (i remember my Fx cluster had 1 more needed than my Lariat due to the message). So just order from there, then send me them PLUS your cluster and I'll get at it. thats all that is needed if I am doing the work. for those that are going to attempt this themselves, i can let you know what else you will need. Oh yea, YOU GOT TO GET NEW NEEDLES! Like I said, late 90's exploders had the best needles. You can usually pick up a used old cluster from the junker for about $50-60. This will be your costliest purchase for the entire mod.
the current needles actually wont allow light from LED bulbs to emit properly through them. also, the exploder needles are clear, so you will get the same color for needle as your led swap. your swappin to red so it doesnt seem like it would matter, but your currents wouldnt light up.
they sure will. Just cut out the red tinted plastic on your face plate, and trim the needles to length. I'll get a pic of my lariat lit up late afternoon/evening so you can see how will it lights up.
I googled Explorer gauge clusters and it looks like at least the 1998-2003 Rangers and Explorers have the same gauges.
