Edit : just to clarify I think I misunderstood what you meant about bleeders mounted on top, I thought you meant like on the side, where as mine are on the back. that doesn't matter. What does matter is that their at the top of the fluid resivoir in the caliper so air can flow out when you're bleeding them. Sorry for the confusion
shoot that's a simple way to bleed the brakes. might have to get myself a mason jar. thanks for the pics man. yea my calipers are the same but my bleeder on the right side is at the bottom. why in the hell would their computers tell them its ok to install on the opposite side. taking that **** back. even with that one caliper flipped upside down I shouldn't have a pedal as low as I do. I should be able to get most of the air out of the caliper even though its upside down. I might try your way of bleeding tomorrow after work. caliper will be going back if I cant figure this out. im able to drive the truck but if someone pulled out in front of me theyre ****** haha
Caliper is your issue IMO, there is a giant pocket of air up above the bleeder. When you pump the brakes the air compresses an pedal firms. And when you bleed em the fluid flows below the pocket of air so it looks good and the air cant escape. Get a new caliper and you should be set to go!
alright man, ill start there. glad I looked back through my brakes book. these things are handy to have around we used all Halderman books for our auto program. I have done everything else right and checked everything over, I still couldn't imagine one caliper screwing it all up that bad but hey, gotta start somewhere. thanks for the help danny, ill let you know what happens. if anyone else has anything to add feel free.
everything is good. swapped the caliper out. called oreilly and talked to a manager. I explained everything to her about how they told me the calipers were universal and how that cant be possible. right away she pulled it up on her computer and said "there are two separate part numbers, one for the left and one for the right. you cant use the same on both sides." I laughed and said "thank you for saying that!" what them dudes were looking at on the computer was saying that the calipers could be switched around IF they had forward mounted calipers. meaning the left caliper for a rear mounted caliper would go on the right for a forward mounted. I asked her why they didn't see that and why they didn't ask me a such question. didn't even know they had a forward mounted caliper for the f150s. unless that's a lightening/Harley thing. she ended up ordering me the proper caliper, got it installed a few minutes ago and went on a test drive. everything is good. thanks for the help fellas. didn't think one caliper would screw the pedal up that much but now I know.
