I had the fluid and filter done last summer at a transmission shop.

It is a little bit burnt smelling, but not terrible. It is also more of a light brown than the red it should be.

Here's what i have noticed from playing around with it:

Dead stop, first gear. Stomp on the gas. As I am accelerating, I can feel it slip, and see the rpms jump (roughly a jump of 150rpms) several times before shifting into second gear. It shifts fine. Same thing in second gear, I can feel/see it slip while accelerating hard, then shifts fine into third. Third doesn't give me the same issues.

Going down the highway at about 50mph, If I take it overdrive and give it just a little bit of gas, not hard acceleration, just slowly easing onto it, the truck will shudder steadily.

When I was driving home, 4th gear, without touching the overdrive button at all. Just normal driving. If I had to let off the gas, then sometimes, not every time but enough to make me nervous, when I would get back onto the gas the truck would shudder. It stayed in gear just fine, and didn't feel like the same slippage I get from a stop. Just an obvious shudder.

Started throwing a P0304 cyl 4 misfire code along with flashing cel and violent shaking today while going up a hill today. Left work early and I've still got the shake but not as bad.

Maybe I've find my problem. According to the ol internet, misfires are often mistaken for torque converter issues.

Now to figure out which of the 2,000 possible things are causing the misfire....yay....

Aha! Loose spark plug boot. That was easy enough

Truck has been running good since putting the wire back on tight.

I still get a shudder in 3rd gear under light load though. 1500-1800ish rpms.

Have you replaced the plug? Also a compression test might be in order. If you're low on compression you're gonna get misfires, an I think your truck has a crap ton of miles, right?

Still no CEL. It was just changed last year but it couldn't hurt to do it again.

I replaced all the plugs last summer. I had the same problem before I replaced them and doing so didn't improve it. And yea, 195k :(
