So im driving to work today around 11:00, i accelerated normally to about 70 mph, i let off the throttle to slow down to 65 and turn on cruise control. As soon as i let off the throttle i heard an explosion and then the truck was vibrating and buckin around. I pulled over and got out and i saw that my driveshaft was hanging down and the new u joint i put in a week ago had exploded. luckily a friend of mine was drivin by, he stopped and looked and said put her in 4 wheel drive and follow me to your place. I put her in 4 and she wouldnt move. Now i was scared that the tranny was done. So he towed me home, we passed 2 cops on the way and luckily neither of them stopped us. I didnt have time to inspect any further as i was late to work. When i got home from work i had gotten another u joint. I put the new one in and threw the driveshaft back on the truck. started her up and drove it around a bit and it seemed fine. when i parked it and got out it smelled like something was burning. so i looked under the truck and tranny fluid was leaking out onto the ground. after inspecting it for a little bit i got a flashlight and looked around and noticed that there was a giant crack on the case of the transmission. its about 6 inches long and about 1/4 inch wide. so im pretty much screwed there. just thought i would share my misfortune. so for now the Skimpy is getting parked until i find a new tranny.

Sorry Joe, sounds like a stroke of bad luck.
Maybe things will work out for an easy fix.

Sorry to hear man, I would call the u-joint company!! I just did a 4r70w in an 05, if you plan to do it yourself I hope you have a lift, the y pipe was a PITA. As far as I know the 4r70's are all the same.

Well the U joint was my own fault, I bought the ****ty Chinese brand cuz im short on cash so i cant expect much from that.

And i do not have a lift, but i know a guy that does and im just gonna have to try to get on his good side otherwise i wont be leaving my garage for a few days. How much is a tranny rebuild kit?
