Would anyone have a few ideas to why my poor truck won't start..? Here is the skinny, a few months back I had the front axle replaced. I took it to a local mechanic's shop and it was dealt with. A few weeks ago the truck instantly shuts off while I'm driving... I assume it is the alternator and I get towed to another shop. I know I should've stayed with those I know, but my wife said these are friends of hers and they are reliable. The alternator gets replaced and the truck STILL won't move, now the friends if wife say it may need a new starter so add that now they say my engine has locked up???? There were no signs of this happening before this. Wouldn't there have been some tell tale signs the engine was about to seize up? Yes, I'll admit the oil was low... but there is some in the truck. So before I take this guys word on the condition of the truck does anyone have any thoughts to what maybe the case to this dilemma? Thanks in advance. Sent from my Nexus S 4G using Tapatalk
Seems a good mechanic shop would know if the engine had "locked up" first and not after putting on an alternator then stating it needed a starter and then saying the motor is locked up. Although it may be true it is locked up. Never hurts to get a second opinion. My wife's friend used a air conditioning "mechanic" she knew through her husband's cousin, they were to fix the AC system. That person broke the windshield trying to remove the dash, "replaced" the compressor, accumulator dryer, condenser, evaporator and charged with freon. He billed her $1000 and the AC system still doesn't work.
it sounds like the dash fuse blew. i had that happen to my truck, cluster fuse. if the cluster doesnt get power, the truck will not do anything. it just died on me. i had no radio, nothing. replaced that fuse, and walla. now i ride around w/ a few of them incase that happens again. its one of those square fuse, not the thin slips. i can get a pic if you need. and again, this is on my 11th Gen F150. not sure if that would apply to your Navi, but i thought it couldnt hurt to inform ya bout this. good luck!
Seriously can you not tell if your engine is locked? A shade tree mechanic would know that. Why did he change your alternator. I would definitely get someone else to look at it.
Thanx, I feel a lot less confident in my wife's friend NOW and I will get that tank of mine towed to another spot. I'm gonna keep my Ford family (All of you here) updated on my progress. To address a few of these posts individually... Why was it assumed the alternator? As my profile name implied I'm a musician, Saxophonist to be blatantly obvious. So, I don't know a lot about vehicles, especially those with sooo much electrical junk as this truck and when the truck instantly turned off while I was on the way home from work, my very first thought was something electric because I had a new battery now the truck managed to stop and coast to the shoulder. It had previously showed a few of the other tell tale signs of bad alternators: dimming lights, weak starts, the truck even stopped completely at a light when I stopped before I had the final stop. I will check those fuses, I am familiar with the big ones. I will get my truck to the guys I know. I love my wife, she felt that I wasn't moving fast enough so had to take care of this for me. She took my truck to a shop where she always would bat her eyes and flirt with mechanics to get a lot of discounted work done. I sure a damn diamond ring on her finger made her a lot less interesting. Sent from my Nexus S 4G using Tapatalk
