    Hi,

I may be purchasing a used 2004 Ford Explorer with 210 000 kms on it (for miles, multiply by 5/8ths).

As far as I can see, it's the base XLS model with 4L and AWD.

The current owner has had it for 4 years and put 30 000 kms on it. Has had minors repairs during that time (ball joint, brakes, etc.) and "reports" no other problems, "everything works" kinda thing.

Just wondering what I should look for ?

Mainly worried about the tranny and AWD mechanism.

    Any tips or suggestions appreciated.

    Thanks.

    Marc P.

if you are that unsure about it take it to a shop that can throw it on the rack and give it a proper look over.

make sure the tranny fluid doesn't look dark brown and smell burnt. check to see 4wd engages, you shouldn't drive on dry pavement with it on. like ricky said, i would also recommend taking it to a good mechanic. in about 15 minutes they could tell you if it's a good deal or not. good luck with the buy!
