Better than your first idea.. Still needs some work though.. point is you have to make them thing the truck is sold.. then back off a little.. here ill break down how my experience went.. I was trading in a car that they could make money on so this won't work as good in a cash situation but it still works.. I took my 2004 v6 mustang to them and wanted to trade for a truck so they did their examination on my car and decided they would give me 5000 for it.. which was cool because that's what I paid for it.. so now it was on to trucks I told them I wanted a f150 they first showed me a 2001 with a v6 I told them I wanted a v8 so they showed me my truck a 2000 ext cab with 5.4 but they wanted 7500 for it which was insane but I played along I took it for a drive and told them I really liked it so we started talking numbers in the truck he said my car plus 2500 and tax and title.. so I told him id have to think about it.. after we got back to the lot I started walking around the truck and pointed out that it was in desperate need of new tires and the paint wasn't in the best shape.. after a little talking they gave 1000 off for tires since it had bald mix matched tires.. so now I was sitting at my car plus 1500 tax and title.. so I dragged em along a little while longer inspecting the paint with my bro in law talking about how much it would cost to fix.. at this time my brother in law called his buddy to see what he would charge to paint the truck he got off the phone and said 2500 for a full paint job.. so I turned to the sales guy and told him there was no way I could do that and asked him to show me a 2001 Chevy z71 I seen at the front (i know I know but I had no intentions of buying a Chevy guys) so we get in that and I just nit pick the hell out of it.. showing no interest at all so we get back to the lot and ask what else they had we looked at a couple more that I showed no interest in.. finally I said look I like that red f150 but I can't give you my car and 1500 for it then have to pay 2500 just to get it looking decent.. for that price I could get a way nicer truck somewhere else.. so the guy goes and talks to his manager comes out like 10 minutes later and said okay were willing to split the cost of paint so well take 1250 off and that'll leave 5250 meaning you trade your car plus 250 and tax and title.. I told em well how bout title for title and ill pay the 20 dollars for the truck title.. he said well I don't think he's gonna go for that so I told him I wasn't going for anything more than title for title so after another short time he comes back and says deal.. Now I don't think it would work quite as well with cash because I'm sure they took my car and slapped 8 or 9 thousand on it so they probably figured they were still gonna make money.. but I'm sure you can get that truck for 4500 to 5000 cash if you work em right.. Just an update, truck was sold. Unfortunately not to me. The bad thing about working 12 hour shifts is everything's closed when I'm off work. Oh well! -Posted with my iPhone.
