I have an 04 FX4 with a leveling kit, and I am looking at buying some tires. I was almost convinced to go with 295/70/18 Trail Grapplers. I priced them, and Discount Tire was the best price at $1184 out the door. I was looking through craigslist today and found 4 Pro Comp Xtreme MT 305/70/18's. They are described as 80% tread, and in an email the seller told me that they all have 1/2 to 3/4 of a penny worth of tread on them. He said that the wear is even and they have no plugs, patches, etc. and are in "great shape". Do any of you run or know anybody that runs the Xtreme MT's? Is $400 as good of a deal as I think it is, and how many miles to you think I can get out of them with 1/2 to 3/4 of a penny worth of tread on them? I drive easy, and most of my miles are on the highway at about 60-65mph. Thanks a lot, Jake.

Post pics but sounds like a decent deal. Offer $300 and go from there. They are good tires from what I hear.

I don't wanna post his CL ad, but here is the description and pictures below. I'm not overly concerned about off road capabilities, but I'll take them off the pavement every now and then. I just really don't want to buy them and only get 10-20k miles out of them. He had them listed at $500, and I asked him if he'd take $400 for them.

"4 Pro Comp Xtreme M/T tires. LT 305/70/R18. Great shape, approx 80% tread left. $150 each or all four for $500.

Good tire overall.I have seen them perform on a Jeep that has them.Great off road.Great in the mud as well.Rain,ok.Gravel,grips nice.

Just remember you will wear them out faster on road since they are a MT tire.80% tread you say.I figure you will get 20-25k,maybe 30k depending on how you run them.Since there an MT and they will be on your daily driver i take it right?

There is NOT 80% tread left on those. Google the tread depth of those tires new then you'll see the difference. They look about 45-50% at the most and you can prolly squeeze 15,000 miles out of them with regular rotation.

I just saw a Jeep at the gas station with those, and they looked fairly new, as his spare still had the paper junk on it. They were about that deep for tread depth.

The more I look at them, the more I want to pass on them. They look good, but I don't think they are near 80% tread. I am thinking more like 40% like westtn said. If they are a 50k mile tire at most (a lot for an MT), that would mean that I'd be looking at about 15-20k miles tops. It's a decent deal, but by the time I have them mounted and balanced I would have $500+ in them with no type of warranty or free rotations, etc.

Not saying I'm against buying used tires, but it will have to be one hell of a deal. Thanks for the suggestions.

my brother got some used procomp mud terrains on his jeep a month or two ago and they are already begining to show even more wear than when he bought them. If you drive on paved roads and highways alot ide go with an all terrain tire

Found some more. These seem like a better deal. 35/12.50/Toyo Open Country's on Moto Metel wheels. His ad was for 750, I texted him about them, and he said he would take 600. I will see what you guys think, and maybe offer him $550. Pic to come, give me a minute..........
