    7.3 starving for fuel... sputtering and blowing white smoke when reved... any ideas?? (not mine btw!)

    Ask the obvious, CEL on? (Check Engine Light) use code scanner.
    Fuel filter changed? Check filter element housing, is it full of diesel?

    Check for fuel flow at the fuel pump on the inside of the frame rail under the drivers door, should be about 50psi.
    Worst case scenario, HPOP (High Pressure Oil Pump) diesel pump for fuel injector pressure is going out.
    Injector or multiple injectors not working.

    Sorry I don't have a definitive answer, just trying to help/keep repair cost down.
