Ok whatever you want to call them nerf bars or step tubes...I usually call them nerf bars. a quick search didn't yield any definitive results I was wondering if the nerf bars from different generation could fit one from another?? ( mine are kinda showing their age) For example, I have a 02 extended cab 4x4 with factory nerf bars. Can a set of nerf bars from the next generation 04'-08' or 09'-12' fit on my 02'?? Keeping things the same extended cab to extended cab from one generation to the other. It is probably more about the hangers, or mounting brackets....IF I keep my old brackets or hangers will they mount to the newer style nerf bars with little or no modification ?? Just wondering if anybody else has done this?
Not sure this is possible without some modification. Mounts would be different and cab sizes are different. 11th gen trucks and up have bigger longer cabs so it might look funny compared to your truck. Why not just ordered new ones made for your truck?
If you get a similar stlye bar I bet you could attach them to your existing hangers with little modification. Easier than drilling holes into the body for the new hangers. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using Tapatalk now Free
thanks for your thoughts yep, that is what I'm trying to stay away from, extra holes and mount positions. but not a completely closed subject. SOME minor modification I prolly can handle. If the bar runs a bit long to aid getting into the back of the bed...I'd could live with function over appearance prospect. N-fab makes a set to run wheel opening to wheel opening. Well the new ones are kinda pricy...& I'm pretty cheap. If I can get some nice conditioned used 5"oval tubes on for the half the price, well then it all good. Part of me was hoping that maybe drill a different hole or 2 and mount up some newer style and be good....a bit like installing the newer super duty tailgate and easy access handle and drop down step. Kinda surprised that one really hasn't tripped up this trail yet
I wanna say this guy put 2011 steps on his 2002 but I'm not 100% sure on the year. I know for sure they are off a later model f150.
Is username is ROSSI on f150forum.com. he no longer has that truck but he might be able to tell you what steps they are.
Drill new mounting points for the newer style bars or weld on new brackets Sent from my SCH-L710 using Tapatalk 2
