Ok, my 2000 f150 3rd brake light rubber bulb holders are toasted, melted/corroded (were not lighting up, that I noticed anyway). So I ordered an aftermarket light (ebay) 97-03 FORD F150 F-150 SMOKE LED 3RD THIRD BRAKE LIGHT when plugged in does not work. Been looking in the owners manual for the fuse and can't pinpoint which one it is. Neither the cargo light or brake light will illuminate, can anyone tell me which fuse or high power fuse would come the closest to solving the issue?
The cargo lamp works off the main light switch's dimmer knob and a lamp relay. This is the same knob that controls the interior lamps. Also, when the doors are opened, the interior lights and cargo light are on at the same time. Check all headlight fuses and relays
All other lights work, if the cargo light comes on with doors open, maybe I should check for power at the plug with a door open? Its a bugger to get to, cause I just partially loosened up the headliner to replace the rear window.
Ok, problem solved! Checked the harness from truck, was getting power, looked closer at the aftermarket plug set, pins were recessed (not full connection). Reset the pins plugged it in and brake light came on, used a stick to depress brake, cargo lights came on! LOL, removed aftermarket plug, and after about ten minutes of using my chiltons manual figured out what colors the plug wires went to, reset the pins in the plug and now I got both brake and cargo lights in correct order! Yeah! Now to remove the light and put some silicone on the cab connection and the wires where they go thru so I get no leaks.
