Hello guys/gals, I have been reading here for a few days, and there is a lot of good info. I bought a loaded 04' F150 FX4 a few months ago after selling my 6.0L F250 because injectors were starting to kill me after 200k miles. I can honestly say that I love this truck. It has 92k miles on it, and I am gonna change the plugs in the very near future. It sometimes runs rough and dies when am coming to a stop, or if I load up the engine by turning the wheels all the way. I am gonna take it to my mechanic and let him get it tuned up. Do you guys have an idea of what the problem might be?

    My main question is this:
I am gonna have to put tires on it in the next month or so, and I took it to a tire shop and spoke to a guy that most in my area consider really good. The truck looks level to me, and it measures level with a tape measure. He agreed, but he said that it doesn't have a leveling kit on it. Either way, it rides fine, and I had it aligned when I got it. I am just wondering what size tires I can fit on the way it is, with the factory 18" wheels. The sticker says it came with 275/65's, and the previous owner put 285/65's on it, but there is still some room in the fender wells. The tire man said that 295/70/18's will fit, and maybe a size bigger with a little trimming (I don't have a problem with trimming some plastic). I have looked, and all I can find are Terra/Trail Grapplers in that size. I don't have anything against those tires, but would like to know if I have more choices. What would be the next size up, and what do you guys think would fit? From the top of the tires to the fender flares is 9 1/32'' on the front, and 9'' on the back. Thanks for reading this, I look forward to doing a lot of reading, and learning a lot from this sight.

Thanks for the reply. I kind of feel the same way myself. I have never seen one come level from the factory, but that is what he was implying.

Can I go with a 33/35x12.50 with the stock wheels? I am not sure how wide they are, or if they would rub the upper control arm on the back side.

 and welcome to the site. You should be able to fit a 35" tire under there no problem. It just depends on the look you want. I personally would go with the 35's. That would be like a 315/70/18 (or there abouts depending on the tire) AT's are going to run a touch smaller than the MT's.

That truck sure looks like it's got a level kit on it. :hmm:

In my own imaginary world, where. Respect for wome
Definitely has a leveling kit. If its not a Spacer kit, then its a full shock replacement, like a Rancho Quicklift or Bilstein 5100. No one is that truck level from the factory. the front is up.

305/70/18 = 34.8" tire. This is a real nice width, lots of sidewall for curbchecks (less rim damage) and you should be able to find plenty of more tires/brands in that size range.

i think that a 12.5" tire might be just a bit too much width w/out a lift kit, but let the 4wd guys tell you for sure. I know when I put the 35/12.5 on my truck, the inner tire wall was too close to my UCA. I couldnt even slip my pinky between there at natural ride height, didnt want to see what happened at full suspension so i added spacers.

The look I want is the fender wells full. I want as much tire as I can fit under it without rubbing. Thanks, I will start looking at some tires today. I know they are gonna be costly, but I should get a lot of miles from them the way I drive. Is it too early in my membership to start asking to borrow money?:hmm:

First Off welcome to the site! You will enjoy it here at FFS! very nice truck and yea I call bs on that guy telling you your truck dont have a leveling kit. When it comes to tires it is comes to personal preference. Are you wanting an m/t or a/t? I'm looking at getting the nitto trail grappler m/t.

Then go with the 35" tire :waytogo: and early membership hasn't stopped anyone else from borrowing money :jester:

Thank you sir. I know it has some kind of leveling kit, but like I said earlier, it rides good, so I'm not gonna beat myself up trying to figure it out. I think I am gonna find a different "tire guy" though. Thanks for all of the fast replies.

Anybody have any idea what might be causing it to die from time to time? It doesn't do it every time I drive it, but sometimes when I start braking it idles down and dies. It will crank right back up, and might not do it again for a few days, but it sometimes will do it 3 or 4 times in a row when I am coming to a stop.

Thanks again for the help, and I am sorry if I am beating a dead horse with another thread about leveling kits and tires.

Thanks. I would rather put an MT on it, because I do a lot of bowhunting out of it in the fall/winter months and have to go through some sloppy stuff every now and then. I don't put a whole lot of miles on it, and I drive it pretty easy, so a good MT should still give me decent tread life.
