Ok here are some pics for ya And as for lifts i am not going there just yet. From the looks its already pretty level. Is there anyway you seasoned pros can tell whats been done already other than the grill and the taillights. Also can i just put some bigger tires on the 17s and get the look i want I will also post some better pics once i get the chance
damn nice looking truck man. looks like the rear and front bumpers have been painted. i dont think they came with painted bumpers that year. also the rims look like they came off a king ranch, new tails and the grille. by the looks of it i dont think you can squeeze a bigger tire in there. might have to go with a lift to do that. thats all i can see. looks good though man.
Yeah thats what I thought. Now since I am a complete novice at this sort of thing would my best bet to go with the body lift. I really like the way yours is set up. is that just a body lift or did you do anything with the suspension. Also with body lift is there any dealing with the suspension? I think I am going to take the grill cover off it looks like it was just 1/4 layed right over the oem. Also I am going to look into some black out covers for all the lights, not to crazy about the tail lights. Got a good deal on her she only has 80k and the dealer replaced the gem and had the windshield re sealed.
since you are 2wd you would need a leveling kit to raise the front to get it level, then add the body lift. body lifts have nothing to do with the suspension.
agreed. if it isnt level put on a leveling kit first and then a body lift. if you dont want to spend a ton of money i would go with the body lift. if you go the body lift route i would recommend installing it yourself. youll pay about $200 for the body lift but youll end up paying double if not triple that to have it installed by someone else.
Ive heard some horror stories with leveling kits and the ball joints and camber issues. They might be just stories though. I will post some cleaner pictures tomorrow. That way you guys can get a good look at the side. She actually seems to sit pretty level. First thing first is I am going to take off the grill cover. It looks like 1/8" aluminum that is just bolted through the oem honey comb.
alot of people run leveling kits. the only time people have leveling kits on the 97-03 f150s is when they install aftermarket torsion keys. you dont have torsion bars so youll be looking at coil spacers. just make sure when/ if you put a level kit on it to get it aligned after. if the truck sits pretty level just go ahead with the body lift. but like i said i would install it myself if i were you.
what all involved with doing a body lift. Is it something that can be done in my driveway in an afternoon? Again I apologize if these questions are novice but I am running into this with no prior experience and really no one who can help except physically. There is a guy down the street who is running a huge lift with extensions on what looks to be a 2005 F150 I might just have to introduce myself.
It will take a whole day to do the body lift. I would set aside a whole weekend tho. They aren't to hard to do with simple tools. You will need a jack and atleast one other person to help you tho.
