Reason they sell POR15 in small pints and quarts is it dries
very fast so a gallon can would skin over on the top part of the
liquid portion still in the can if you are painting a large area.

One could by in bulk, just pour what you estimate it would take to cover
the area into a smaller paint can and seal up the gallon.

good thing im doing this now. there is rust showing on the surface of the inner rocker, i put a thick coat of plati-dip on it until i can get the whole rocker panel off so i can sand it down and paint it. still dont know how far im going to take the old panel off. i dont really feel like taking the front quarter panel off and moving the bed back to get behind the rear door.

it looks like the rust stops at a certain point at the front of the panel, but the back side goes a kinda far. going to try to cut the panel off on tuesday.

just hope it will be ok to drive around without the panel on there until i get the new one on since the panel holds the latch for the rear door.

ive got a big ass crack in my transmission crossmember. went to the local salvage and picked one up, not realizing the chance that one off of a 2wd would possibly be smaller than the one i have. how much of a difference is this going to make? it all mounts the same. the once i got is off of a 97.

did some more on the rocker removal today. sorry for the blurry pictures. i blame it on the fact that im sick!

went and got me a little 3" cutting wheel for the die grinder. worked pretty good. my air compressor is too damn small though.

    made a couple cuts

treated the rocker with some de-ruster, i love that stuff. letting it dry and tomorrow if i get a chance im going to spray the **** out of the rocker with some undercoating. just bought some permatex heavy-duty.

    heres what came off

ive gotta cut a little more off at the back but i was afraid if i cut more off that the back door would wobble while driving since the door latch is on the rocker panel. the new panel is on its way from FIXMYRUST.COM. they are located in Ohio, hopefully it will be here by this weekend.:peace:

lol thanks dude. i figure its always a good time to learn something new...the part im most afraid about is getting everything painted really good to prevent any rust for atleast the next 6 years or so lol (maybe thats wishful thinking)

i havent decided yet on the welding. i have a guy that works on all the diesel trucks at work (who i think is a pretty damn good mechanic) offer to weld the panel for me aswell as teach me how to weld. hes the same guy that welded the small light bar i made for my bed topper. if i do have him do it for me i hope i can do it this weekend.

    otherwise

i might head to lowes or homedepot and see if they rent out welders and tackle it myself. it dont seem all that hard lol most important thing is to make sure you dont heat the metal too much to warp it right?

as far as the welding goes the WHOLE panel will be welded shut so no water can get in there at all. i might even reweld the passenger side too just to make sure its tight.
