i like your idea for sure, ill probably get some steel tubing from homedepot and see what i can do about a crossmember. i gotta find something to do while i wait for that damn window-weld **** to dry...that is if i find it tomorrow.

Yea I used to do Home Depot for steel but found online was cheaper, an for something like this you could even get away with 1 1/2 schedule 40 pipe from there just grind off the galvanization first an weld it up, buy a 4 ft chunk for like $10, could use rebar for tow hook, bend it up

well my bed project is under way. i cut the steel tubing down to size. two tubes are 4' and the other tube is about 6' long. i wasnt sure what to use for brackets but i found some nice thick angle iron in my pops garage. that **** usually looks tacky when people use it on vehicles but no one is going to see it under the truck.

ive got one beam welded up. plan on doing the other two tomorrow.

my welding was getting better as i was going along, this was when i first started. it looks like shat but itll hold for sure lol

put some spot welds on the bottom of the brackets. i think they looks pretty good lol only cause theyre easy.

im planning on wiping these down with some denatured alcohol when im done welding and spraying them with something. i think i may use a regular paint and primer for the supports, just cause i have a bunch in the garage. the bottom of the bed will either be rolled or sprayed with POR-15. thinking that i might start putting this all together next weekend, maybe.

Danny, ive got the perfect piece to go upfront for my tow hooks lol. thatll probably happen after i get the bed done, well see.

A better ground and more amps will fix that sputter effect you got goin on there, also keep your arc length short (distance from tip of nozzle to workpiece)

thanks for the tip dylan, ill turn it up a little more and see if i can get a better ground on the tube.

is that the trick to getting a nice stacked weld? i try not to move too fast but if i go to slow ill probably burn through the angle.

There are many techniques for stacking dimes but you either push or pull the puddle an you're going to need to be at about a 35-40 degree angle, making like "U" shapes back an forth whole pushing or pulling is the easiest way I can describe it
