I was wondering what year did Ford start putting the step into the tailgate?

Also, would I be able to retrofit that newer tailgate onto my '03 (has it been done)

It would make my bed a whole lot more user friendly. Thanks in advance!

 

I believe it became an option in 2008 and yes you can put it on your 03

 

2009 with the new body style. You can fit a superduty tailgate onto your 03 by switching the hinges. I don't think the 09+ F150 tailgates fit the 97-03s...

i know the feeling man and mine is no where near as tall as yours. Ive been looking for the 08+ tailgate.

 

sweet. ill be keeping my eye open. i should be able to get one relatively cheap around here. the Air Force Base im at is FILLED with retirees, and about 85% have a superduty pulling a fifth wheel. I just need to find someone that is willing to part with their origional tailgate after switching to the fifth wheel tailgate. Thanks for the quick info!

im gonna have to look around for the companies name, but they have a step that mounts under your rear bumper and swings down. its basically exactly like the step that the land rovers have on them. my buddy has one on his lifted duramax and its always handy
