So I finally got around to putting in my new door actuators, both passenger sides fried a couple of months ago. Its easier to to change them if you take the door handles off so while I had them off I put in a little home made "anti punchout" deal. you can buy kits to do this, but this worked for me. Last year my dad got got his superduty broken into, they punched the lock out with a screwdriver and unlocked it and got in. They've been doing it a lot around here because they can do it relatively quick and noiseless so they can just open the door and it doesn't get much attention. Here's the finished product: So what I did was cut out a piece of scrap steel, all I had was 1/8th inch and thats a little thick for this but its all I had ha ha. I traced out the circle from the lock cylinder itself, but that was too big because its beveled inside the cylinder on the door handle. It turns out that a dime is the perfect size, so I retraced that and ground it down. Since my steel was a little too thick I had to re cut the grooves in the cylinder housing for the holding clip. If your steel is thinner you may not have to do this. A little bit of paint, and youre done! If you want you can use a piece of 3m moulding double stick tape on the back of the steel to hold it in place better, but the lock cylinder should hold it fine. Of course this doesn't prevent anyone from just bashing your window out, but like I said, the lock punching is common around here, and it only took me a few minutes to get this done. Im sure this can be adapted to f150s and other trucks as well. also got my new door badge on.
What happens if your electric remote dosnt work and and you need to use they key? Then you cant. But still a good idea.
I havent done the drivers side yet, but if all 4 motors fail, or for some reason your keyless doesnt work (which ive never had happen aside from my remote battery dying), than your royally screwed. ha ha, its not a perfect system, its more of a deterrent than anything. I dont know if im going to do the drivers side the same, I might do a false cover or something just for this reason. there is nothing to stop them from breaking the glass, if they really want in theyll get in. but like I said, its more of a deterrent. I had the handle off and I thought "what the hell, could be cool"
i would have done the drivers side and not the passenger, only because around here they are poppin the drivers door for easy access to the wheel, rather than crawling over the seat to get to the driver side (looks strange and obvious you arent supposed to be in that vehicle). did a real good job though thats for sure. my uncle has an 06 and just got his driver side popped. nothin was takin, but still. and hot damn that new badge looks GOOOD
Thanks man! I dig it. I did the passenger side because that's the side I had off while doing my actuators, it was more experimental than anything ha ha. Sent from your Mom's house using Tapatalk
Great mod. Johnny law got the breaking and entering vehicles SOB in our hood. Funny part is he turned himself in. Guess he got tired of being 6 months under a warrant.
