Is there any way I can install a double din without cutting the dash? Would there be enough airspace for two 10s or 12 shallow mount if I were to build a custom box that would double as a console in front of the seat in a regular cab 98 flareside?
possibly 2 shallow 10s and for a double din, there will be some trimming needed. usually its a custom trim job as all radios are different...Ive had 2, first one needed a lot of timming, the second has a lot of room.
i had two RE Audio SRX 10's in my old reg cab. Had a bit of room left for more airspace too. As for two that would double as a center console (in front of the seat), only if you didnt use a 60/40 or bench seat in the truck.
To install a double din do you have to trim the outer cosmetic piece that pops off or the pst behind there?
I have seen some trim it, some have not. I think it all comes down too what double din you're using, and personal preference once its installed.
I would like to have the double din but I do not want to trim on the dash. If anyone knows what can be used without trimming let me know.
As far as i know the only trimming you have to do is inside the dash behind where the radio would sit and then a tiny bit around the top perimeter of the opening. Those that have done it say its real simple and nobody can notice a difference.
So I got one of the wiring kits and the speaker wiring plug matched my plug but not the main plug with the power wires. Bought the wiring kit for 98 with premium sound and the main power plug matches but not the speaker wiring plug. What gives
