I have been trying to figure out how I became a ford guy over the past two weeks with all the chevy's that stand out in my childhood memories. So just out of curiousity...what vehiclesfrom your childhood stand out and what vehicles initially sparked your interest in cars and trucks?
the vehicles from my little kid days that stand out the most to me are the 1967 GMC my dad used to have (the old teal-ish green, I nicknamed it the booger as it looked about that green in my eyes at the time...it was either a I6 or a 305 I dont remember right off hand backed by a 3 on the tree), then a mid-80's monte carlo SS and a 1978 toyota celica...also include many 81-87 gmc's and chevy's but I dont remember much about any of them just that general body style gm is what I associated with my dad after the celica/monte carlo because it seemed that was what he was always driving
first vehicle i ever drove (sat on a lap and turned the wheel in the pasture, but still) was my grandads 67 f-100 longbed. no pics and not many details other than that. its been long gone but i do remember it first truck i ever remember my dad bringin home brand new was a 99 f350, 7.3, 4x4, 4 door longbed, 5 spd. inderectly, my dads first car was a 67 mustang 2+2 with a 6cyl. hes told me countlesss stories of him workin on it, racin camaros, wreckin it and rebuildin it. this started my love for things with engines the fact that i even exist is because of a FORD. my dad dated my mom because she had a 85 mustang GT with a 351w. ugly as sin but it would run. he dated her so he could borrow it and race his friend that just got a new camaro. won too!
first vehicle i ever drove was a 77 c10 292 with a 3 speed manual. No picts and wont ever be one day it caught on fire
and my favorite memories are of the monte carlo, toyota celica, and the 67 gmc. The 67 GMC was the first vehicle I ever "drove" (my dad sat me in his lap and let me steer...I went from the video store in somerville up to the stoplight...maybe 200ft but it was the best 200ft I can ever remember) and the monte carlo and celica both stand out in my mind because they are the two cars that eventually got me interested in cars because when I was riding with him he would always spin the tires pullin into and leaving the driveway... on a sadder note another vehicle he had that sticks out in my mind is the 64-66 c10, my dad had for awhile and sold to my uncle, it was my granddad's truck and even though I never saw it in a running state it was the last piece that I could tie back to my pappaw (who died when I was 4...I have very few memories with him because I was young, but I still miss him), but me and my dad had talked for years about fixing it up but he just never could afford to do anything with it, and he ran into some financial trouble and sold it to myuncle, who later lost his job and the truck got scrapped...
my dad has always had f150s, he has a 07 lariat right now, had a 05 250 diesel before that, wish he still had it, hes driven about every truck out there and keeps comin back to ford, I looked at dodge, chevy for a long time came close to buyin a chevy 1500, dodge 2500 hemi, 01 4wd 4.6 reg cab f150, 02 f150 2wd screw, but I could not pass up a 03 f150 4wd 5.4 lariat screw for 8k especially when I almost bought an extended cab chevy 1500 4wd lowest package for 11k from a dealer with the same mileage as my ford....
when we lived in tejas my parents always had a f150 around. my dad has been restoring cars as a hobby for a very long time- so there was always 1 or 2 projects around, which were constantly changing. not to mention he never had the same daily driver for more than a year. my favorite of those projects is a '56 nomad, he still has it. my second favorite was a '77 vette. the first car i drove was my mom's caravan, then my dad's wrx. when i was looking at trucks to buy the first one i drove was a '97 ram with a cummins 12v, i've been in love with that engine ever since. but i ended up with a great deal on my truck and love it too! here's me at the '98 auto show, it was probably destiny...
For some reason I still remember the brown '80 Monte Carlo my great grandmother had when I was little. Weird that I remember it because she traded it in on a new '85 Celebrity. I was 4 in '85. To this day thats still one of my favorite types of car and Id love to own one someday. I also remember the '78 Cobra my aunt had. V6 and 4 speed, back when the Cobra was just a spoiler and decal package.
when i was born we had an 89 mazda MPV and a 82 toyo pickup...once i got a couple years old my dad let me shit his toyo. it was a 5 sp.. but i started getting into lego cars and hot wheels and from then on i was always stuck on cars.
first one i drove when i was like 13 was my dads '99 F150, b4 that he had a rotted out '91 s10, so the F150 really stood out as being super nice compared to the s10, then my first car was a '95 explorer, its was beater w/ 200K+ but i was in love with it, bought my truck after graduation ans after test driving every make out there, i landed in a ford, well we needless to say we currently have 5 of them in our driveway
