So my spindle lift from rough country just came and I was gonna put it on after work. What are the chances of my breaking a ball joint in the process? The instructions make it look easy but there's always that chance. Also my tie rods should be long enough. It says I'm gonna need a alignment but will it be driveable?
ya it will be driveable the wheels may not be pointed exacly straight but it will get you to the shop. breaking a bj...kinda hard. to get my stock spindle off took a lot of weight...like a 25lb sledge but it didnt break haha, a pickle fork may help pull em apart. and its really easy just when you break it loose have a jack under the LCA cuz if you dont the spring will go flying!
Yeah knew that part. I just don't have a pickle fork. Think I could make them straighter myself? I might not make it to a shop for a day.
ha like i did! i needed to make em a tad longer for new ones...and i counted the number of threads and did each one seperatly and the wheels werent pointed straight at all hahaha epic FAIL!
See if a local auto parts store may loan the pickle forks for the removal. If you're worried about the spring shooting out like a rocket, get some banding strap and put it on a few coils with it compressed, so they just fall out. Then cut the straps when you get it all back together.
