My truck just started making a weird hum noise. it actually sounds similar to a turbo, but a lower pitch. It kinda "spools" up and down as I accelerate. definitely something with the motor, not a wheel bearing or something like that.

I also noticed my sub started thump thump thumping again, even with the volume all the way down.

Hmm. I have tried two different sets of RCAs and got the same problem. One set was in the truck when I got it, and the other is a set I ran down the opposite side from the amp power wire just this last summer. after you said that though I took another listen to the humming and it is in fact coming from the sub not the engine like I first thought.

Unplugging the RCAs does make the noise quit though

It's grounded with a seat bolt but I guess it's possible the wire became loose or wore out. I'll check it out tonight. The thing that doesn't make sense to me about that is if it's the amp ground why does unplugging the rcas stop the noise?

I also don't understand why a bad ground would cause it to hum ONLY when the truck is running, or why the sound of the hum changes and gets louder when you rev the engine

I forget the exact problem but it has too do with the alternator. The frequencys of it rotating are transmitted through the sub. It should sound like a whipple charger. Had this happen on one of my trucks. Has to do with alternator grounds and wiring and amp grounds if I remember right

My first thought was actually alternator but then it didn't make sense why it would come through the sub. What your saying makes sense though. Do you remember if the remedy was to replace the alternator?

I guess I'll try a whole 'nother ground wire and seat bolt. Tried getting the old one loose and the bolt was so tight the head stripped. I have no idea what a condenser is...
