    It's not hard at all.

disconnect the electrical connects and get them out of your way.
    disconnect the driveshafts
    disconnect the trans cooling lines.
support the transmission take down the cross member
disconnect the bolts around the bell housing slide the transmission back a bit and take it down.

Put a new filter and fluid in on the new and do the above in reverse.

^ good point. Hell, I might even let ford do it! They wanted $650 for labor/taxes for the installation, but then I get a 1 year/10k mile warranty on their work. I don't think the local shops offer anything like that.

Im sure the install aint much different than most. It's all about having the right tools to do the job. I personally don't have time to even attempt a project like that anymore. So off to the shop it would have to go.....

I've got some phone calls to make. but here's the plan. Get a used one, add a shift kit upgrade. Mag-hytec pan, and trans temp gauge. Sound good to you guys?

I'll post the details tonight, but I can get the trans with upgrade installed for $1900ish. Still sucks, but better than $3800!

I've wondered about this.. Unless you're cruising at highway speeds it would actually seem like more wear to have O/D on. OD gear = lower shift points = equals more shifting = more wear. I usually turn mine off when mountain driving so it quits shifting every 10 seconds.

TThat makes a lot of sense. Most of my driving is pretty flat and under 60mph. The few hills I go up I downshift on. My 4.10s have a lot to do with that.
