I thought that putting it in second only limited it to shifting up to 2ed, not that it would try to start in 2ed. Good to know. I'm pretty set on doing the swap myself now. We've got a place to do it and a transmission jack, just have to wait for it to warm up first. -13 outside right now...
I think my f150 takes off in second if you put it in second... When you get your truck together put it in second... take off really easy.. and then pull it down into first when you get like 3 or 4 mph.. it will downshift into first I know my f250 does this.. because when im in 4low i always put it in second and it takes off in second haha.. if you pull it into first and the truck is rolling at all it like thros you throuhg the windshield
Well, got my truck up on blocks yesterday... Think I'm going to let Ford take care of the transmission installation. Its just way too much work to do on the floor.
I can't blame you. When the OD went out in my Durango I put it on ramps in my garage and tore it apart myself. Plus side is it only cost me $80 in parts plus new ATF (when all the shops said it needed a full rebuild).. down side is I spent two solid days cramped underneath that thing with my face and body coated in tranny fluid. Not fun.
Yeah, having to remove the exhaust, both drivelines, transfercase, manifold, etc... I just don't have the time to put into it.
So here's a truck I bid on almost a week ago. I didn't get Tabby's, but it looks like i might end up with this one. Copart Also got my Mag-Hytec Pan from 4WheelParts and gauges from Summit in on Friday, just waiting on the gauge cluster to get them all installed.
Updates! I didn't win truck, it sold for $3100, so I got a used trans for $900 instead. Then when talking to Ford, found out I'm still on powertrain warranty! Yesterday I got the news that they are replacing my trans next week! Heck yes!! I got my gauges and pillar waiting to be installed now, along with an autodimming rear mirror and a JLT intake is on its way!
Cool! I'm happy for you. Do you know what TC and front differential you have? I've been thinking about converting my 2WD to 4WD and would like to keep the same 7 lug heavy duty power train. I'm also looking to do a power folding towing mirror install on my XL. My garage doors are too narrow for my truck without folding them in, and I don't have to tell you what a pain that is (to readjust afterwards). Do you know of anyone that has done that yet? I found a real good thread on installing the folding mirrors on a Lariet that already has power mirrors; using the existing switch. I'm open to any suggestions and comments. Show us some pics when your done with your gauge install.
The transfer case and front axle are the same as the rest of the F150s. Idk the model of the TC, but the front axle is the Ford 8.8 with 4.10s, I'm sure the front hubs just bolt in. As for the mirrors, I have no clue how the power fold works lol I swapped the trailer mirrors on and the only thing that worked was the power adjust... I was able to find a diagram and do some testing with a volt meter to get the turn signals and heat to work. The turn signals I tapped into the rear brake lights and the heat I wired up completely seperate to a switch on the dash. Since you have an XL i don't know what would work off the bat... I'd start up another thread and see what the guys say...
