Looking at getting an f150 with the 5.4 in it, what are some good performance upgrades to kind of wake it up more?

I already plan on buying a superchip programmer have one on our Expedition, was thinking an magnaflow muffler, cam a little above stock. Wasn't thinking headers but may consider it. Anything else you guys suggest? I don't want to go too radical, will be a daily driver and also pull our travel trailer.

Don't bother with the Superchip. Edge and SCT make the most reliable and proven programmers for the gas Fords. SCT has a larger following right now also and would be my recommendation.

If you're looking at cams, do headers, otherwise you're wasting your money. What year 5.4? How heavy is the trailer wet?

the most cost effective ($$ per HP) mod is a supercharger or turbocharger. Intake, cams, headers, exhaust, and a chip can get you maybe an extra 100hp. Forced Induction is 2x that.

Factory trucks are coming out with almost 400hp (gas) and over 800lb-ft (diesel) and 6-speed transmissions. a 20 year old truck may get the job done, but there are a lot better options available.

Okay, I'll look at SCT then.

5.4 would be in the 2001-2003 model f150. What do you mean when you say wet?

Yeah but don't want to really go that route, rather do bolt ons.

Yes this may be true, but don't want that nice price tag of a note, plus again it's more of just a daily, pulling once every 2 months. Plus I also work in a refinery and I would hate to buy a beautiful truck and just mess it up.

    2v 5.4 is in the 97-03 and 04 heritage. 3v 5.4 is in the 04+.

Wet means the weight of the trailer ready to go. With the spare tire and tools and everything.
My 07 Heavy Duty only has a tow rating of 9200lbs, including the payload in the bed of the truck. Your trucks may be significantly less

Maybe you can add an Evo Hand-Held Tuner. Got mine from 4wheelonline. It definitely made a difference on my truck's performance.

Looking actually at a 2010 f150 5.4 and an 08 f250 6.4 right now trying to decide what to go with actually.

If you're going to do any towing, I'd get the 250. The 6.4 is a great motor with a lot of potential.

For just a family car, the F150 would be better

Yeah we have a bumper pull trailer so we kinda feel the 250 will be better suited for it. Plus its not as problematic as the 6.0
