I know almost nothing about transmissions, other then what mine is and that its a weak link in the 7.3 platform. But I know my tranny isn't suppose to shift into 2nd at almost 3k Rpms feeling like butter while doing so. With my tuner it shifts nice a snug with quick hard shifts which from I read is actually good since the gears are locking in firm vs slipping. So it looks like I'm losing 2nd gear. I'm taking it to our guy who handles all of our trucks and trailers, I'd rathe pay a couple extra hundred for honesty and good work I know is backed up by him, wee been going there for 10+ years.

He said it could just be a solenoid, but I guess I'll find out. He quoted me 2400 for a rebuild of my tranny, not a rebuilt one bolted in. 3000 with 'beefed up' internals which ill have to ask him about. I'm hoping its jus something small...

Dang hate to hear this Brendon, my friend's 2002
F250 blew a transmission couple years ago.

I tried to get him to let us fix it but he insisted
to take it to the dealership. They kept it 10 days or so
and it cost him over $5k for a standard Ford tranny installed.
Ford service reprogrammed his computer and he lost use of his BullyDog
chip. Tried forever to get him to call BullyDog tech to get the chip
reset but he's afraid of what Ford dealership told him, void the
transmission warranty running a chip.

Hope it is a simple fix.

Yeah, I won't ever take it to the stealership unless its for the factory recalls. This guys is always good to us, he charges a bit more, but we get awesome service and guarantees. In this case his price is very reasonable. Found one place advertising a special on CL for 1000 for an already rebuilt tranny with install and a 3 year warranty, and another for 2995 with install with a 7 year warranty. I really hope it's something small and not a nightmare. Luckily Denny said he'd loan me his jeep if its going to be gone for awhile. Pays to do favors for good friends ha ha.

$3k for a built one installed with a warranty is a pretty good deal. It costs about $3500 for ford to replace a factory transmission with another one.

    It has 127k.

When I drove it today to the shop it was redlining before shifting. The clutches are fried. He recommending a completely new transmission from a performance shop. Upgraded torque converter, valve body, and clutches. 100k warranty. Essentially bullet proofing the tranny. He's getting me a price tomorrow morning. A bts tranny is like 3800 plus shipping and shipping for the core, and installation. So hopefully its between 3000 and 3800.

Fig, I got a diesel ha ha, 3k is high, 3500 is redlined ha ha
