Going to be needing some winter tires in about a month or so and am pretty set on the Duratracs. They're studdable and come in the sizes I want and have the snowflake I can get 285/70R17 [32.7x11.2] at a local shop for $1200 or order 315/70R17 [34.4x12.4] from Amazon for free shipping for $1200 (I can order the 285s from amazon also, but only save $120 ) Which ones should I get? Any other EQUAL tires will be considered also. i'm running 265/70R17s right now fwiw [31.6x10.4]
315s, cause theyre bigger! haha I thought about ordering some tires off amazon but then you gotta pay to get em mounted and all that. think im ordering my next set from tire rack. they mount and balance tires for free if you buy a set of tires and rims.
Shipping kills me though. I can mount and stud my own tires, and It's only 30 bucks to get them balanced. sent from my igloo
I have 315 70 17 duratracs. Here's a list of my complaints with them: ...and that's it Buy them. Dont look back and don't consider another tire. I absolutely love them and I tore it up in a couple feet of snow last year, in 2wd. They look great, perform great, wear great. I had 10k miles on mine and a shop thought I put em on that week.
Ive only heard good things about em so far...I will be looking into them for my next set. go 315s, bigger contact patch. and for snow.....well around here for as much as we get...it seems like only the trucks with real tires are the only ones out playing and not freakin out and spinning out like the rest of the noobs.
285s will be better for winter, the 315s are better for powder snow but on icey roads won't be nearly as good, the 315s will distribute your weight more an youll have less traction vs a 285. So while they may look cooler cause they're bigger they won't be as good for the crappy Alaskan roads
Yeah... I was hoping that an inch width wouldn't make that big a difference, especially since I'm going to stud them. Still waffling on which one though.
