My truck has recently started struggling to start. It's fine most of the time but is doing it about once every 1-2 days. It just sits there cranking but not firing for a bit, then it will slowly sputter to life and run very rough for 5-10 seconds before becoming normal. It feels kinda like it's starving for fuel, and pumping the gas pedal seems to help slightly. Fuel pump going bad maybe? The fuel filter was replaced fairly recently as were plugs/wires. It almost always happens in the morning when I'm leaving for work and then it will be fine all day. I park in a heated garage at home so temp isn't an issue. Any ideas? Could check the fuel pressure or try turning the key to the run position for a few seconds an let the pump build pressure an then try starting an see if that helps
Didn't supercrewzn chase a similar problem to the point he installed a fuel pressure gauge at the windshield cowl? Don't remember his solution: http://www.fordfullsize.com/forum/f79/help-6797/
Damn, it's too bad he never posted a solution, if he found one It might be worth mentioning my truck ALMOST never idles perfectly smoothly. It's another problem I've never been able to figure out. It's not rough by any means, but she wiggles around a little bit. It's been going on for long before this starting issue. Sent from my Milestone X using Tapatalk 2
Maybe someone else remembers his solution. I've been reading several of his threads trying to find the answer. I know I had him looking at the IAC as a possible cause.
I'll go ahead and swap out that PCV valve. This isn't the first time someone has mentioned that in relation to the idle.
An easy way to check the fuel pump is to turn the key on for 5 seconds, then off, then on for 5 seconds and then start the engine. This gives the pump extra time to get the fuel up and to build pressure. sent from my igloo
